Question: What's the difference between Keyed Alike, Keyed to Differ, Master Keyed and Keyed to Sample?

  • Keyed Alike means multiple locks can be opened with the same key for convenience and simplified access. This service can be added to your order by selecting YES where a drop down box appears or by adding a KEY ALIKE CHARGE to match your order quantity of locks, less 1.

Note: As the existing keys that are changed are rendered useless, normal practice is to provide an appropriate number of keys per order.

In most cases, 4 x keys are supplied with Keyed Alike orders.

ADDITIONAL KEY (s) can be added to your order if:

  • You need more copies for the lock(s) you've bought from us
  • You are having a group of locks Keyed Alike to one set (pair).

Note: Please contact The Lock Shop if you are not sure all lock purchased are compatible with Keying Alike.

  • Keyed to Differ means each lock has a unique key that cannot open any other lock, providing individual security for each lock.

Note: Some products are supplied Keyed to Differ as standard. Please contact The Lock Shop if you are not sure the locks purchased come Keyed to Differ as standard.

  • Master Keyed means that each lock has its own unique key, but a master key can open all the locks within the system.

Note: Please contact The Lock Shop to discuss a Master Keying plan that suits your specific access needs.

  • Keyed to Sample means that all locks are matched to a specific existing key, allowing the new locks to be opened by that key.

Note: Please contact The Lock Shop if you are not sure the locks purchased are compatible with your existing key.
