Probably would be ok, but for the application, I'm guessing I have made a bad choice. I should have researched further. I have self closing wooden entry gates for which this closer was to assist or soften the closing? But in hindsight the closer would be fighting against the springs in the self closing hinges, possibly not a lasting combination.

Took 9 days to arrive, but the gate closer was easy to fit and certainly does the job.
