So, how to bolt a safe to the floor? In many cases, you’ll be bolting your in-floor safe at the time of installation, so we’ve included the full steps as follows: 

CHOOSE THE RIGHT LOCATION

Check the floor surface is strong enough to hold your in-floor safe, and that it will be fully accessible in the chosen location, with the door able to be opened properly. Popular choices include inside wardrobes, under staircases, under beds, and the centre of a garage.

CHECK CAREFULLY FOR UNDERGROUND HEATING, CABLES, OR PIPES

Ensure you’re well away from obvious pipe locations such as bathrooms and kitchens. If in doubt, drill a small hole into the floor to investigate with a coat hanger.

TRACE AROUND YOUR SAFE TO MARK OUT THE HOLE AND CUT IT

Allow around 100 mm out on each side. To bolt a safe to a concrete floor, you’ll need to use a demolition or electric jack hammer. For wooden floors, a diamond blade saw may be enough

REMOVE SOIL

Allow 100 mm of concrete to surround your safe then pour some concrete into the bottom. Ease your safe in (ensuring it is lower than the top of the slab), and continue pouring slowly around the safe so the concrete gently brings it in line with the top of the slab. Allow the concrete to dry. Be very careful not to let any water come in contact with your in-floor safe as they are not waterproof.

For a Push Button Locks with Ten Buttons (such as the Carbine CDL7100 digital lock):  

Step 1: Enter the lock’s programming code or default code (you can find this in your instruction manual or on the back of the lock). The indicator button should flash and beep three times.  

Step 2: Press the indicator button. Then, once the keypad turns blue, press the number 1 button. Again, the indicator button will flash and beep three times.  

Step 3: Now, enter your new four to eight digit code. The indicator will flash and beep three times, after which you should re-enter your new code. You’ll then hear one long beep and see a long green flash, indicating your new code has been set successfully.  

Step 4: Test the new code to ensure it’s working.  

For a lock with metal pins or chips: 

Step 1: Using a screwdriver, remove the lock from the door.  

Step 2: Remove the back by unscrewing the screws. 

Step 3: Lift off the back plate. Inside each hole you’ll see either a red or blue metal chip. The red chips correspond to the code combination, and the blue chips are inactive.   

Step 4: Using tweezers, gently remove the red chips and put them carefully aside.  

Step 5: Remove each blue chip correlating to a number in your planned new code and replace it with a red chip. Press firmly to lock them in place.  

Step 6: Once your red chips are all in place, fill the rest of the holes with blue chips.  

Step 7: Replace the back plate and test the new code to confirm it’s working properly.  

Step 8: Reinstall the lock on the door.
